Achieving results.

  • YourPact was commissioned by The Jockey Club (in collaboration with carbon and natural capital specialists, Trinity AgTech) to measure the environmental impact of five of its sites across England.

The pilot project is the first of its kind in British racing and measured carbon emissions, carbon capture and removal and biodiversity at Newmarket’s training grounds and racecourses, The National Stud and Haydock Park and Market Rasen racecourses.

Gathering multi-site and independently verified data is a crucial step in providing objective, robust insights which has now helped The Jockey Club develop their environmental sustainability strategy and ensure positive environmental impact is a central consideration when reinvesting its profits back into racing.

  • We are continuing to work with Solihull-based commercial flooring company, FLR, to support biodiversity enhancement on a local regenerative farm. Working closely with both the farmer and the organisation, we have helped facilitate annual cover crop plantings and specialised habitat plantings - supporting soil health, wildlife and carbon sequestration.

  • We provided carbon credits for BASIS to offset the carbon footprint of their 2022 awards. These credits were produced in the UK, by a regenerative farmer through nature-friendly carbon removal projects.

  • As part of the Racing Foundation’s support for the horse racing industry, we developed a sustainability framework for a cross section of industry charities. The aim of the project was to highlight the key areas of sustainability which were the most relevant to the sector and to establish targets and action points for each charity to adopt.

  • We worked with YourGreen to organise free wildflower seed pack donations to 50 schools across the county of Shropshire. The project was a huge success and YourGreen was able to engage with local schools to encourage children to learn about pollinators, habitats and the importance of these wildflower species.

  • We worked closely with a local public authority, Waters Upton Parish Council, to provide free native wildflower seed packs to residents and members of the communities. The aim of the project was to create engagement with biodiversity enhancement across the area and raise awareness of the biodiversity crisis facing the UK.

Spotlight on…

The Jockey Club.

The Jockey Club has set a commendable target of being carbon neutral by 2027. A baseline footprint measurement from 2019 showed that approximately 10,000T of emissions were needed to be reduced /inset/ offset to reach this target. Trinity NCG and YourPact worked with The Jockey Club to create a total baseline for green land management and from this assessed the opportunities to reduce emissions relating to grassland management, increase sequestration and offer third-party local and credible credits to purchase, as necessary. The pilot project focused on five entities; 3 x racecourses, 1 x gallops and 1 x National Stud.

The sites included were selected to provide valuable case studies to allow for an overview of carbon sequestration, biodiversity quality and highlight future project opportunities.

The collaborative effort marks a significant milestone in the move towards sustainable practices within the sports and entertainment industries.
